A Sister’s Pen

To my sister, who is feeling low

Feeling like she has no place to go

Stuck on life’s merry- go- round

that happens to be, Not so merry

My sister,

That feels trapped

Without any rays of Sun

Without any ways to

Run

Without anytime

To Stop

Knowing the world

Waits for None

To my sister,

Whose tears have

Overflowed the river’s run

Whose silk

Has been out spun

Repeating patterns

Can be undone

My heart sinks for you

Uncried tears

Causes throat clogging fears

To choke truth

From you

Leaving you speechless

Dry

Like unsweetened peaches

My heart weeps with you

Intangible defenses

Brick walled forts for the heart

Guarded by fear

Armed with bitterness

Clothed in hate

Protected by confusion

United with the loss of knowledge

Which leaves my people perished

My sister

My heart breaks for you

Cracks left by you

My love

Reaches for you

My spirit

Leaps for you

with Hope seeping through

wanting to soothe you

You’re not alone

Your journey

Is still to be honed

Time can’t be replaced

Your purpose was just misplaced

Your life

It, still has meaning

There’s time

Still remaining

Your clock has not run out

Just recharge

Your mind

Reach out

Transform

Your thoughts

to surmount

Defeat is not your end

Renewal

Comes about

Breakdown those built up walls

Your heart

Will beat again

Trust God

You’ll surely Win

Forgiveness

Will surely mend

The heartache

You’ve been forced in

All you have to do

Is Start

with God and you

My shoulder is here for you

My prayers are spoken too

With love,

You will get through

God has promises for you!

Tune-Up Tuesdays

Every certain amount of miles that I drive, I have to send my car to the dealership for an oil change and a check-up.  They check my brakes, tire tread and alignment, and whatever else they think they can get money for fixing.

images (32)

Some of us go to the doctor ever so often for physicals and annual check-ups to make sure that our bodies and organs are functioning properly.

images (33)

We go to church on Sunday to have our spirits nourished, to be preached happy, and sometimes condemned by any sins committed throughout the week.  But what happens in between Sundays, after we’ve danced, sung praises, and spoke from the Amen corner?

images (34)

What about our minds?  Where are you going to renew your mind?  How many Monday mornings are you hitting you in the face before you realize it’s time to be tuned up?

dont-worry-image

Tune up Tuesdays is the reminder of that secret place that we go to fellowship and abide within our Father, where we go to seek His face, to seek His kingdom!  Our minds are exposed to so many things on a daily basis; our own problems, helping others with their problems, work problems, family problems, world problems, the list is endless.  But God promises peace and He is always with us.  We must acknowledge Him!  Literally, think of Him being right beside you. The question is never, “Where is God,” the question is, “Where am I?”  Because God said He will never leave us, so when we’re feeling alone, it’s because we’ve allowed our minds to be caught up in the situation and we need to renew our minds and align them with His word.

Today’s Tune Up Tuesday Scripture:  “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” – Psalms 19:14

*Meditating on God’s word is a great tool that can be used to tune up the mind!

Hurting

“Hurt people, hurt people.” – Will Bowen

So if you’re hurting, be mindful, you may be hurting others.  There’s healing for the hurt….. Peace for you unrest…..Light for the darkness…..And Love for the depth of mess that holds you hostage. There’s freedom in surrender.

Validation needed Here!

As if my existence could only be proven by a simple response, I waited for acknowledgement.  Waited for my phone to ring, so that I would know I was important enough for you to respond to my call.  Waited to hear the sound of applause after giving birth to my soul on an open mic night.  Waited for a simple wave or gesture of recognition that you know who I am, because I see who you portray yourself to be.  Do you approve of the words that I’ve written, the thoughts that I’ve spoken, the gift that I’m giving.  Is it beautiful enough to be appreciated, profound enough to be enlightening, courageous enough for you to give me the title of being brave, being established, being more than the perception of a lazy procrastinator.  Are you able to see me?  Am I loud enough to be heard?  And if so, is my deliverance enough to be proven to show results.

What is this overwhelming need to feel validated by others?  Some of us would never reveal the secret thoughts that plague our minds, as they wonder what other people are saying or thinking of them.  Experiencing the dilemma of an altered perception of yourself due to other peoples’ opinions.  Left crippled, bound in fear, and spilling over from the thought overflow of inadequacies.

Why else would you expose yourself to the risk of rejection, if you hadn’t felt the gratification of being acknowledged, being praised, being applauded, being exposed to the validation that you are somebody.  To know you’re encouragement changed someone’s life, that you’re ability to do what you do affords you life’s luxuries, feeling the love of people you don’t even know all because of something you’ve said or done.  How exhilarating it must be to be “somebody.”  To be set apart and celebrated, to be given worth.

So here’s the thing, God created each one of us uniquely and in His image.  Before we even made the decision to believe that He existed, He loved us unconditionally.  Without condition, He gave His only Son to die for us, even though He already knew we would reject Him, be disobedient, selfish, and the depth of the darkest secrets that we may hold….He loves you.  We have been predestined as adopted sons and daughters of the most high God.  Isaiah 49:16, “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” You are literally in the palm of God’s hands, and He is always thinking about YOU!  “Even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” (KJV, Matt. 10:30)  How miniscule are the thoughts and praise of others compared to the thoughts, purpose, and power God has for you.  When you decided to accept Jesus into your life you became a son/daughter of God, adopted into the kingdom, and you have an inheritance. (Eph.1)  God’s grace and mercy cannot be earned, cannot be bought, and it cannot be inherited, it can only be given to you by God.  And He gives it to you simply because you believe.  Your life is worth more than diamonds and gold, and you have a purpose and gift that only you can fulfill.  God has specifically appointed you to go forth and prosper; He has specifically anointed you to speak, teach, write, sing, play instruments, dance, paint, heal, direct, lead, be the voice of a broken people; and He has specifically given you the power, the strength, the love, the patience, the courage, the endurance, the knowledge, the creativity to fulfill what He created you to do.

Searching for validation from others is simply the need to be validated in God. Thank God for His grace. So who cares if no one applauds, don’t stress if that person notices, and don’t be alarmed by the silence that eludes those you seek praise from.  Simply search your heart, surrender your will, and serve your Creator.  He rejoices over you, He loves you, His thoughts are of you to prosper, and have the desires of your heart.  Acknowledge Him for He is always with you.

Shadows of Candlelight

It’s built on a promise, the faith needed to sustain an entire lifetime, a desire so prominent that it outweighs the option to choose life.  It’s the irony of the sweetness in surrender, because we fight so hard for control.  It’s the depth of the shallowest pool, because the reflection of the sky conceals how deep the water is not.  You’re left in a state of amazing awe, amazing grace, drifting in the sweetest sound, the most endearing light, filled in an ever flowing abundance of unconditional love that you’ve never wanted because you would have never imagined it exists.  Peace within an enormous storm being over swept by tsunamis of erratic emotions, can you imagine? Peace. The ability to know what you didn’t know at the exact moment that you need to know it, though listed as magical…. it’s not magic.  To hear what the deaf hear, and see what the blind see…….ignorance is not bliss.  It’s important to know.  Have you experienced Jesus?

Tree Of Awesomeness – Two

I imagine looking out the living room window from the second floor of my apartment building, daydreaming and inhaling the scents of the downstairs café. My view beckons me, well actually it’s the tree…..it calls out to me, luring lost creativity from the depths of soul to liberate my spirit. It’s my place, the tree…it evokes me to know myself. I can see us, feet propped up on a wooden bench, sipping on coconut water, inhaling the occasional breeze of freshly brewed coffee. Birds on the wires chirping at passerbyers, as the leaves rustles whispers of a tree’s wisdom.

Don Charisma

I love this tree, it’s huge !

The power cables run right through the tree, hardly surprising the transformers are always blowing up here 🙂

Enjoy 😀

Living the Story

Lately, my news feed has been full of current events that resemble the trials and tribulations of the Civil Rights Era. It’s modern day America, August 14, 2014, and my news feeds have been flooded with the injustices of Mike Brown, Ezell Ford, and a homeless grandmother that was BEATEN in the face by an officer on the median of a highway, and yes she has name, Marlene Pinnock.

crBurEPjpCMAEBlKV

ferguson3images0XOBR5LY

I mean, REALLY!! Where the heck is everybody!?! Does your television not offer the channel that is showing videos of the atrocities that are happening right now? Is you Facebook, Twitter, Instagram not flooded with visuals of clouds bellowing tear gas being thrown at US citizens who are standing with their hands up? Do you not see oversized German Shepards with even larger teeth barring angered instinct to attack? Maybe if you could pause for minute, while you’re watching your favorite singer gyrate across a concert stage, and search Ferguson County on Youtube. Or do you think these videos are being manipulated by the recorder to portray that bad things are happening to people who probably deserve it.

cr2Michael's lifeless body stays on the ground as a grim reminder of the value of a Black life.

Never speak, never publish written words, never form an opinion when what you see is so horrible that you choke from your on breath. I try to swallow burning tears that threaten to drown me in the deepest sorrow that helpless hopelessness can conjure. Are you guys awake!!

I know, it’s so much easier to pretend it’s not happening. We don’t know the whole story, right? Maybe they deserved it, you know, black folk can get a little rowdy sometime! What lies are you poisoning your own self with? What ignorance should be CHOSEN over truth?

BupTPCiIAAAWiD4

I stopped writing during the coverage of Trayvon Martin’s forced sacrifice of his life to expose the injustices of a young black man. I purposefully strolled by any comment, post, tweet, or picture that invoked his name. Hesitantly, I watched the trial. And even that was forced into my consciousness, because everyone I was around was tuned in. I knew it would end unjustly. I tried to muster up any scrapings of hope, but doom hovered over every word that was spoken in his defense. I knew I shouldn’t have watched. I shouldn’t have participated in the blackening of my Facebook profile pic to support Justice for Trayvon Martin. See, I started out trying to avoid the case coverage, but my heart gravitated to it. And then I was left with a lump in my throat, a whole in my heart, crippling hurt, and an infestation of anger…… This is the way justice prevails.

Maybe my premonitions were from being jaded after being so sure that Troy Davis would at least be taken off death row. When the final answer was released that he would be executed, hurt ripped tears from my eyes as if he was my family; ‘cause really we’re all family. At least Mumia was taken off death row, but the good deed that was punished manifested in the discrediting of Mumia’s former attorney, Debo Adegbile, from being elected to head the Department of Justice Civil Rights Department. Mr. Adegbile was a part of the NAACP Legal Defense during the reinvestigation of Mumia’s case, and claimed a victory of getting Mr. Mumia off of death row. President Barack Obama nominated Adegbile to head the DOJ Civil Rights Department, what higher credibility than to be chosen by the President of the United States. So let’s break this down: An attorney, who was defending a case that someone’s civil rights were violated, was able (after numerous attempts by others) to have this man’s case resentenced to be removed from DEATH ROW, is denied the opportunity to head the Civil Rights Department. Mr. Mumia’s civil rights were grossly violated throughout his case, and Adegbile was able to prove the injustices, and was denied a very prominent position because of it. I’m truly sorry if I’m being repetitious, it’s just so incomprehensible.

Confronted with so many whirlwinds of emotions, that my mind defensively goes numb, as I write, I begin to feel like what is the point of writing. Will the eyes that glance over the words be able to translate them into the raw emotion I feel in regards to my people of color? Will they understand why I’ve cried, feared, and prayed for my younger brothers, my cousins, my nephews, my black men who I have met, will meet, and will never get the chance to know. My ladies, as well as, all my people of color we are NOT the minority. We are the majority, and it’s time that we take stock in the value of our lives.

In honor of all those whose lives have been taken, before their time, “Give Love. Seek Truth. Be Light.” In honor of the purpose each of us have been given to continue to live, “Give Love. Seek Truth. Be Light.” Be Empowered! Empower others! Sometimes freedom comes at a cost.

An American Horror Story : Michael Brown’s Final Moments.

The MadMan Chronicles

Dorian, Michael friend was with him at the time of his deathThe police refuse to interview the sole witness who was with Michael Brown at the time of his death. They also refuse to listen to the neighborhood full of witnesses who also saw the murder of this child.

Instead, they issued a lie based on the tall tale of their murderer … Uhhh … Officer.

Below is what really happened. As told by Michael’s friend, Dorian Johnson,  who was with him at the time of his death.

This truth needs to be told to the people … Please read and share.

“About 20 minutes before the shooting, Johnson said he saw Brown walking down the street and decided to catch up with him. The two walked and talked. That’s when Johnson says they saw the police car rolling up to them.

The officer demanded that the two “get the f—k on the sidewalk,” Johnson says. “His exact words were get…
